New Zealand & Sub Antarctica

These remote Nature Reserves enjoy World Heritage status, recognized for their volcanic and glacial geological formations and extraordinary diversity of flora and fauna - much of which is endangered or recovering since being discovered and later plundered in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s by sealers and whalers. Home to over half of the world’s seabirds, some of which exist nowhere else, this wildlife paradise contains 40% of the world’s albatross species and 50% of the world’s penguin species including the endangered yellow-eyed penguin, plus hundreds of thousands of other endemic birds - petrels, prions and cormorants.

The Humor of Cruising

·
Having worked for so many years at sea one undoubtedly comes across many people, some lets say who are not that well traveled then others. Below some of the more challenging questions that we have encountered over the years! Thinking back the most special moment was a guest insisting of having her mail send off the ship "right away" when we were in the middle of the Atlantic!

- What time is the midnight buffet?
-. Does the ship generate its own electricity?
- Do these stairs go up or down?
- How do I work the microwave in my stateroom? (Its a safe!)
- Do the crew sleep on board?
- Will we see dolphins in the morning?
- Can we look at the anchor? (When anchored!)
- Can you move the lifeboat from our stateroom window?!
- Has this ship ever sunk before? (Hmm!)
- (On formal night at Captain's Cocktail) Who's driving the boat?
- I'm claustrophobic... is there any chance of an upgrade?
- Do the lifeboats really float?
- (Cruise to Nowhere) When are we docking at the first port??
- Why isn't everything in the shops reduced on the last day of the cruise?
- The orange pillows on my bed are so hard, can we get softer ones ? ( Ma'am, that will be your life jacket )
